Week 3

Hi Everyone!

What a great race on Friday! For those of you who raced last year, you might remember how hot it was even at 10PM. It was nice to have some cooler temperatures to race in even in August. It certainly gave us some fast times for a season opener. Congratulations to the girls’ team for taking 1st place out of 18 teams! And for the 2nd year in a row! 🎉. Congratulations also to the boys for taking 3rd place out of 20 teams!

Nerdsheets
In God we trust, all others must bring data.
Edward Demming

For those of you who are new to XC, you’ll soon learn there are two things I love; a good quote, and good data. A big shout out and thank you to Coaches Leatherman and Swart along with Alaina Miedema and Caroline Schippers for helping us get all your mile splits. With as many participants there were, and how dark it was, it wasn’t an easy task! We definitely missed a few of you fly by (sorry!)

If you’re a data nerd like me, you can view the girls nerdsheets here, and the boys nerdsheets are here

Pretty much every XC team and every race director will track results on athletic.net. Here’s a link to our team’s page where you can see all of our results for this season as well as seasons past.

Gallant Award

The Gallant Award originated from a topic we used in devotions previously from the cartoons featured in Highlights magazine called ‘Goofus and Gallant’.  Goofus is the jerk that always does the wrong thing, and Gallant is the bright and shining example of the right thing.

The Gallant award is given by their teammates. Each week the previous week’s recipient along with advice from our Captains will choose who they feel is the bright shining example of the right thing to do.

Ethan Miller

Ethan was chosen after a track day. He had finished his reps for the day, but other’s still had work to do. Not ready to let his teammate run alone, Ethan jumped in and did extra reps. Iron sharpens iron!

Addison Mokma

Addison was chosen on a track day as well. Anyone who has ever run before has likely had a side stitch at some point. Despite the obvious pain, Addison stepped up and went back to work! Nobody said it’d be easy, only that it’d be worth it
